Dedication (To The Sea, To The Sea)
Artist: Céline Condorelli
Produced By: Chloe Osborne
Client: Creative Folkestone
Project Type: Sound Consultant, Podcast Recording & Post-Production

Overview
As part of the Folkestone Triennial 2025, I worked with Creative Folkestone and artist Céline Condorelli to develop, record, and produce On Water — a podcast recorded aboard a boat on the English Channel.
The piece explores how we live alongside the sea: its beauty, danger, and presence in everyday life. The recording itself became a live encounter with those ideas — balancing conversation, environment, and the unpredictability of being at sea.
Challenge
The podcast had to capture authentic discussion while embracing the conditions of open water: motion, wind, salt spray, and the constant sound of the sea.
It also required shaping the structure and format of the recording so that the conversation could unfold naturally while remaining technically achievable.
Approach
My role began before recording — consulting with Creative Producer Chloe Osborne and the artist on how to structure the piece, including:
•how many topics and voices to cover within the limited recording window,
•how to balance natural flow with technical feasibility,
•how the final piece might be edited and assembled to reflect the experience of being on the boat.
From there, I designed a practical and resilient recording setup:
•Lavalier mics for each speaker to preserve intimacy despite the noise.
•Boom and waterproof rig mounted over the side to capture the sound of the waves and hull.
•Redundant recording with waterproof rack units to avoid data loss in heavy spray.
In post, I handled dialogue editing, restoration, and final mix — shaping the sound so the voice and environment coexist rather than compete. The result is a piece that feels both documentary and poetic — the rhythm of the sea underpinning the rhythm of the conversation.

Collaboration
The project was part of Creative Folkestone’s Triennial programme, produced by Chloe Osborne with artist Céline Condorelli and guests.
I also provided engineering support for artist Emeka Ogboh’s multichannel installation, part of the same festival, bringing together two very different but complementary approaches to sound in public art.
Outcome
The On Water podcast was released as part of the Folkestone Triennial 2025, extending the exhibition’s reach through sound and dialogue.
For Noise and Order, it demonstrates an ability to consult on and deliver site-specific sound works — from creative structure and technical planning to recording and post-production — combining high-end sound practice with deep creative collaboration.
